Thanks for all your comments. This week has been a bit nerve-wracking for me because I wasn’t sure what would happen when I shifted the blog to my own server, but it has worked really smoothly so far. From next week, we will switch off the “comments” feature on the ALC blog, so you will only be able to post and read comments here. As I said before, having the blog on my own server gives me much more flexibility, so I will start thinking about how I can use that to make the blog more interesting.
Anyway, here is some feedback on your comments.

I’m going to a welcome-back party for a person from Kuala Lumpur at a Romanian restaurant tomorrow night. He is a retiree, stays there and came back to Japan for family matters. I have no idea what the Romanian dishes are like, but anyway, I am looking forward to dishes and the party!
By the way, I was going to buy a solar filter for total solar annular eclipse scheduled to be happened on Monday when I went out shopping at a supermarket near my house, but all are sold out…. It’s a shame, but I know it’s too late to buy it. Has anyone bought it?

1. but my daughter loves the group, their songs, fashion, hair style, and everything. It seems like they are “hot big sisters” for her.
I wanted to say “憧れのお姉さん”, but I found it difficult to express “あこがれ” in English. Does “hot big sisters” make sense? “She adores them” is better? What would you say?
2. Speaking of school festivals, I also saw some boys sing and dance a song of AKB in a girl’s uniform at my son’s high school festival.
I first wrote “in girl’s uniformS” because the subject(I mean “some boys”) was plural, but I changed it into singular because each boy only can wear one uniform. Which is correct?

“Hot big sisters” is not wrong, but it is a bit strange. 「憧れの」is very difficult to translate, but actually, in English the meaning is covered by the word “idol.” You could also use the verb “idolise,” as in “She idolises them.” That is probably the most natural way to translate it.

“Girls’ uniforms” is correct. (A number of boys in a number of uniforms.) “In a girl’s uniform” sounds like they were all trying to wear the same set of clothes. Actually, that might be quite funny to watch!

The government has officially announced power-saving plan for summer today. Apparently, you(Kansai area covered by KEPCO) could avoid rolling blackouts if you cut power use by at least 15%, but KEPCO will prepare for rolling blackouts just in case.
15% sounds quite much, but it isn’t an impossible number. In fact, we(Kanto area covered by TEPCO) managed to clear the target number last year.

I’m wondering why we(TEPCO) area don’t need to save power this summer at all. All nuclear power stations in Japan have been shut down, but the area covered by TEPCO actually seems to be able to live with the power without using nuclear power stations even when the highest power consumption is expected – in the middle of summer. Very strange….

As I have announced, I went to Enoshima with family today. We visited Enoshima aquarium and saw Dolphine show there. It seemed that my son liked it very much.
After that, we climbed up Enoshima observation tower. The tower isn’t very high, but the shape is a bit simillar to “Tokyo Skytree”, and my son thought that it was “Tokyo Skytree”. He asked me, “Is this Tokyo Skytree?”, and “Yes, it is”, I replied. I actually don’t want to visit Tokyo Skytree this year, because there must be very crowded for a while, so I decided to tell him a lie. He feels sure that he visited Tokyo Skytree today, although it will open first next Tuesday actually… I know I’m a very bad mother!! 😉

How your weekend? Hope you all are having a great weekend. I have had a bad headache since yesterday, so I left the office proper time and went straight back home. I took painkillers after dinner but it didn’t work. I was supposed to go shipping today, but I stayed home and got some rest. I just popped out for a couple of hours, though. I needed to go to hair salon. Gradually, the medicines worked and my headache has disappeared. Since I had enough sleep last night, I can stay up late tonight.

This is a bit tricky to express in English. I think the following is probably the most natural:
They are just idols whose fashion and make-up young people like to copy.
You could also make it simpler and say, “They are just idols that (whom) young people like to copy.” If you say exactly what it is that young people copy, the sentence becomes more complicated.
Your second sentence should be “Role-models should be people whom people respect,” but repeating “people” sounds clumsy, so how about “Role-models should be people we can respect” or “Role-models should be people who are worthy of respect“?

My daughter is having the day off to make up for last Saturday, but some teachers and students gathered at the school to see the annular solar eclipse this morning, so she joined the viewing too. My sons have gone to school with special glasses, so I think they also saw it.(Actually, my son’s high school decided to start classes one hour late for this event.) The weather forecast said it would be cloudy all day today, but the weather is lovely so far, so we could see the annular solar eclipse clearly. 🙂
